On Shigyo Sosyu Collection

Wind rises Whither does my Dream go?

Shigyo Sosyu is a businessperson, author and poet of Waka (Japanese poem).
With profound affection for the Pure and Noble spirit of Japanese, penetrating through the long history of our ancestors, he cordially accumulates Art Works that sublimates the above spirit into its Art. And he wishes to pass them down the generations. He considers this deed to be his way to express the Devotion to the country.
Sosyu senses the superior genealogical Soul related to the history to be a Gust of Wind. The Art, which this Wind has created, may well be expressed as "Mementos of the Wind" which the history of Japan has woven.
This very "Mementos of the Wind" is exactly what [Shigyo Sosyu Collection] is.

Yasuda Yukihiko

Yasuda Yukihiko(1884-1978)

Among his Collection, the works of Yasuda Yukihiko has been accumulated with particularly profound admiration over many years.
Mainly historical paintings, including the works that Master's acquaintances have treasured for many years, and those Yukihiko has presented to his close people, from which his sincerity is directly sensed. Endless admiration is enhanced.

Yukihiko is the Sincerity of Japan. His paintings display the most Pure Something Japanese possess. Nobleness supports his work. To have contact with Yukihiko, leads to have contact with the Beauty of Japan. His Art engraves in our soul, "Miyabi: Gallant Grace", and "Mono-no-Aware: Pathos of Nature". This is the reason why, I pray with all my incompetent might, to strive to succeed to the future generation his works. In all ages, the Crystal-Clearness of Yukihiko, must resuscitate Japanese Soul.

Hakuin(1685-1768)

Hakuin is the restorer of the Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism. In Sosyu Collection, "Calligraphy" of his later to last years is mainly assembled. Hakuin, in youth, was said to be vulnerable and afraid of hell. As he persistently practiced severe austerities, in unity with Nature, his Calligraphy gained strength and magnanimity filled with Original Vital Energy.

Hakuin is an Impact to History. It is expressed as, to overturn the ordinary, the power of anti-ordinary. Something inhibiting deep within the Soul of Japanese Sympathizes. Primitive Savageness, such may be. Yet, this must be the very power to maintain Civilization. Deeds of shedding blood and resecting bones lead to cherishing Life Energy. Hakuin’s tenderness, the essence of his affection, is in the Devine Sword itself raised down to us. Insofar as Japanese esteem Hakuin, our country may stand Independently Alone.

Nanten-bou(1839-1925)

Nanten-bou is a Zen monk of the Rinzai Sect of Buddhism. His name was given, for he had severely beaten, trainee monks regardless of their answers, with Nanten (Celestial Bamboo) Bou(Stick). It is said, Nogi Maresuke (General Nogi) became his devout and confronted the battle of Ryojyun(Port Arthur). Nanten-bou's Zen-drawings, within their full charm, severe paradoxical view-points being hidden, are one of the major features of our Collection.

Nanten-bou is the matrimony of Japan and the West. His Bushido supports Zen, and this Zen is supported by the Western Spirit. He may be expressed as a monster born from our country's Feudal history. Historical Spirit observed in this Zen-monk, has created Meiji-era Japan. Ultimately, Modern Japan is indebted to the Spirit of this "Gigantic" Man. Magnanimity to tolerate everything. We must sense its Sorrow. This very Magnanimity has created the Modern-era. The Soul of Meiji has accomplished the Art.

Hirano Ryo has ceaselessly battled with Absurdity of this world. His Art is not too much to say the Vestiges of Blood and Tears. It is the result of the most invaluable way of life that we must not forget. It is the Unique Japanese Art, which the way of living itself has created. It is Lofty and Sorrowful Solitude.
